We water our plants to keep them alive, we give water to our pets to keep them hydrated, yet when it comes to ourselves we tend to drink chemically infused products, alcoholic beverages or sugar saturated drinks. There is a reason we feed our animals and plants water to keep them alive, so why don’t we treat ourselves with the same care and regard? Here are a few reasons as to why water really is life.
Maintain Balance of Body Fluids
Our bodies are comprised of 60% water, these bodily fluids are responsible for digestion, absorption, circulation transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature to name a few. All very important features of staying alive, when you’re low on fluids, the brain triggers the body’s thirst mechanism, so make sure you are getting a nice tall glass of water to help re-hydrate you when you are feeling thirsty.
Improve Muscular Performance
Cells that don’t maintain a proper balance of fluids and electrolytes shrivel, which could result in muscle fatigue. Keeping hydrated while exercising is vital to being able to perform at your optimal capacity. So make sure that you are drinking plenty of water during your training session to ensure you stay at your peak.
Help with Weight Loss
Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, which makes you put on unnecessary weight by constantly snacking; try having a glass of water when you think you are hungry to see if it will settle the craving. Drinking a glass of water before meals also helps to lose weight by making you feel fuller, and it may also boost metabolism.
Helps Brain Function
Dehydration causes shrinkage of brain tissue, which means our brains have to work harder to perform at our usual level. So make sure you are keeping hydrated throughout the day to stay on top of your game.
Kidney Function
Kidneys are a very important organ within the body, they help with waste removal, balance fluids, control blood pressure and so much more. The best way to keep them working at optimal capacity is to make sure you are drinking plenty of water.
Clear Complexion
For beautiful blemish free skin, drinking water and keeping hydrated is a must. Certain toxins in the body can cause inflammation resulting in clogged pores and acne development. Water helps to flush out toxins, limiting the chances of developing acne- keeping your skin blemish free and radiant.
Water is Life
Water really is life; we can survive approximately 3 weeks without any food, but only around a week without water. With 60% of our bodies being made out of it; we absolutely need it to survive. Every cell in our body needs water to function, it acts as a lubricant for our joints, regulates our temperature, flushes away toxins, and so much more. So the next time you turn your nose up at a glass, remember the importance of water and drink up.
